RIMU Music Preparatory School and Nursery set to open
By Mark Kebble on January 15th 2012
RIMU is a new Preparatory School and Nursery with an emphasis on Music and Drama. As well as teaching the core academic subjects, RIMU has devised a fully developed music and drama programme.
It is being set up by Nathalie Richardson, who as well as being a graduate of The Guildhall School of Music, has run Step Up Theatre Schools in South East London and Essex for over 15 years. RIMU is using Sunfields Methodist Church, Old Dover Road, Blackheath SE3 as it’s venue.
“I have 15 years experience of running Step Up Music Theatre School, a part time stage school for children from 4-18 years of age. Through Step Up I have seen first hand how music can have a positive effect on a child’s well being and development. RIMU represents my dream to marry traditional academic learning with a broad music based curriculum,” says Nathalie Richardson.
RIMU Preparatory School will provide:
- small classes
- a strong academic timetable with specialist teaching in all areas
- a fully developed music and drama programme for ALL students including keyboard and recorder lessons, Kodaly, Rhythmics, Theory of Music, ensemble and choir
- Trinity Guildhall Music and Drama exams, AB exams and LAMDA
- 11+ Exam preparation
- a large variety of PE activities
- numerous extra-curricular clubs
- a breakfast club and after school club for working parents
Bursaries may be available for some preparatory school students.
RIMU has the support of well established organisations such as The Blackheath Conservatoire and The British Kodaly Society. Charles Hazlewood and Cyrilla Rowsell, who are both prominent figures in classical music, are patrons of RIMU.
Classes will be small with a strong academic timetable including French from reception and Latin for years 5 & 6. Students will also be prepared for 11+ examinations. RIMU also has use of Blackheath Sports Club for its PE sessions.
Mornings at RIMU will be devoted to academic studies, whilst the afternoons will follow our specially devised Music and Arts programme. All students will do outdoor sports at least twice a week and swimming once a week.
